Topic Title: 888-567-8688 on HSBC Change of Terms

A helpline caller from California said he received a change in terms from HSBC but he does not have any HSBC accounts, never had, and never will. In fine print at the bottom of the page it tells people they can call 1-888-567-8688 to opt out of further junk mail.

When one calls the number it is an automated system which asks for your social security number. Here is the part where one gets leary. HSBC does not tell you the number belongs to the credit bureas. Nobody in their right mind would give their social security number to HSBC. Most people are leary.

What happens to your information when you call the number? Why a change in terms if you don't have an HSBC account? Remember - the credit bureas are a complex organization of for-profit companies. The skip tracing side of the house, and the debt collection side of the house take the caller ID information and match it to your social security number.

Is it fair? Is that right? You decide.
