Topic Title: 2005 H&R Block Rapid Refund Gone Bad

CJ warns everybody with this email: January 29th 2006. Seeing the commercials on TV and also hearing radio ads were enough my wife and me. I normally do my taxes myself, but I thought what the heck, might as well try them. Little did I know the nightmare ahead of us. Finances aren't as good, so the instant Refund Anticipation Loan attracted us. After about 20 minutes of waiting in the lobby to start filing, we met our "Tax Associate" and we proceeded to file. The associate was very nice.

The last of the filing was to ask how we wanted our money. Four options were highlighted, so we could either receive our money in 2 weeks without a whole lot of fees and the most appealing (of course) was to receive a RAL in 2 separate checks. Little did we know that it was a LOAN and none of this was explained to us at the time of the appointment. Just a few signatures required on the contracts and we were done. The lack of information and quick sale was very aggravating. Our total refund for federal was $3447. After the prep fee's and this and that fee's we were then down to $3005 total in RAL in two separate checks. We received one check for $248 and charged for fees and we were told that we would receive the other check the next day.

Calls after calls were made to H&R block to check the status, and none were there. We went in personally to find out. We were told simply that "We have nothing to do with it, and it’s out of our hands". We were than given a number that said our refund was delayed. We were shocked.. With all the fees that were taken we were expecting a check. They take fees and other deductions of our money that we don’t have access to. H&R Block is scum and they know how to sell and ditch the customer once finished. Feels great to not know what you’re getting into when signing papers and contracts.

I know that I am responsible for reading the contract and all that garbage, but it’s also an associate’s responsibility to explain the process. They essentially rip you off of your hard earned money while turning around and saying its not our problem and than we wait another possible 3 weeks even though we paid for a rapid refund. Between H&R Block and HSBC, I have called over 5 different numbers, and all numbers are automated and one big loop.

We did our taxes at HR Block. It took three and a half hours when it should have been only one to one and a half.

The rep put a wrong ss number in for my daughter. The speedy return fee that we paid was, needless to say, not speedy.

The rep was the manager so she refunded our prep fees. Did not expect that.

HSBC processed and said that the Treasury Dept. had a hold and we would be notified of a refund if any. What?

Call automated treasury lines and it said that there was not a hold on my wifes or my SS #.

I am now trying to find a number for HSBC. I will probably call about ten until they direct me to the correct person.

I just hate it when I have to give multiple stories to multiple reps.

Call HSBC. Talked to two people. They told me that they do not reprocess loans once they have been denied. That is nice after their hefty fee. This really #$%^!@ me off. Does anyone know of the best way of handling this other than Attorney General. I call Treasury numbers again and the recording stated that there were no holds.
I want my money back. Please help.
